What is the best scratch resistance (we have 2 dogs) wood laminate floor to install ourselves?

We would like to keep the price as low as possible, because we are raising 3 kids, so we also need a long warranty. (20 years) Is there a better brand to go with? Should I go with a light or darker color? My living room is sage, burgundy and cream colored.

I had 4 dogs, 3 bichons and a llaso and I put down Pergo. I lived in the house for 4 years after I put it down and there was not even a hint of wear on the floor.

Pergo has been around the longest and they have ironed out all the "kinks" and I believe they have the best product.

I made the mistake of letting my builder put in a laminate floor by Shaw in another house I bought and it dented and scratched if you looked at it too hard!!!

You won't be sorry if you go with the Pergo and they have a large selection of colors and styles to choose from!!
Reply:Pergo....it is a little pricier than other brands but will last longer and is a better value overall. You get more than your money's worth with Pergo. Good luck!
Reply:I learned my lesson about laminate flooring the hard way. The scratching may not be an issue so much. The greater issue for laminate flooring is the moisture. If you do not "seal" the seams, water on the floor can get into the laminate planks and warp them. If I had it to do over again I would have put down real wood and not the laminates.
Reply:i have been studying wood laminates and i have found 0 with a 20 year warranty and i know they can not be refinished. Did you know most are scatch resistant!

Just go with a mid grade

no lower than $2 or $3as they don't sctratch but are -extremely 'chip happy'..
Reply:I went to Costco and purchased Solid 5/8" thk. solid Bamboo flooring, prefinished, which is extremely hard, made from renewable sources, and comes with a 25 year warranty. We installed it ourselves on a bed of building paper, and rented a floor nailer, and installed it ourselves. We used a light color to minimize the dusty look, and purchased it for $2.07/Sq.Ft. here in Canada. We are very happy with it, and when the dogs walk on it, they do so very gingerly.
