I bought an old house(1925),it had overgrown, leggy, photonias in them, I dug them up,now I'd like a bed that would look in keeping with the style of the house. It's a bugelow type ,with beds on both sides of the steps to the porch.Something low growing, and can get mostly sun in the early day.I'm thinking Texas Sage would be pretty, can anyone give me ideas?
What would be a good plant to replace the overgrown and leggy old Photonias in the front beds?
Texas sage sounds nice, any sage plant would be pretty. I like the lemon sage, when you rub the leaves the smell. Lantanas are nice and come back each year. Canans grow a little upward but are easy to matian. Glads are nice, but if you want something low how about a ground cover? Onw of are beds we have gaint elephant ears with regulars in front mixed with black magic ones " they have a purple blackish leaf. Then in front of those we have coladims ?spelling? mixed with another small elephant ears that have black veins and green leaves. its pretty cute.
Reply:Try sweet broom. This is a green full bush with tiny leaves. It blooms beautiful spikey yellow flowers that smell like lemons. It loves the sun.
Reply:texas sage would be nice to do ,but what about some azales to plant ,and maybe someroses,or maybe some lilies to grow near you house
Reply:pansys and carnations or just colourfull flowers mixed in with herbs
