Reply:I do to how do you know this stuff?
Reply:Thyme and Paprika
Reply:OREGANO!!! I use it in a lot of my dishes. I also love cilantro in my mexican dishes. Rosemary %26amp; Thyme is good for chicken. All time favorite is Oregano though!

OH! And I ALWAYS use bay leaf in my spaghetti sauce.
Reply:I love garlic...tomato sauce with a bay leaf, rosemary is great in italian stuffing, I also use alot of black pepper when I cook pork. Thyme is also tasty combined with sage, garlic and cayenne when I make anything with shrimp. (Montreal Steak seasoning in good on everything)
Reply:I like rosemary, my wife thinks it tastes like dirt so I don't get to use it often.
Reply:i love basil, peppers, chili, chili leaves, garlic, bay leaf...i love herbs!
Reply:basil on tomato sauce, rosemary for roasts and for potatos cooked in the oven(add also a bit of garlic;) ), sage with butter as sauce for ravioli

Reply:My personal is mint and dill.
Reply:My favorites are, thyme, summer savoury and oregano.
Reply:i use basil the most
Reply:I never am without fresh cilantro, and rarely without fresh basil. My refrigerator generally has cilantro, basil, garlic, two or three types of chili pepper and a couple kinds of fresh mushrooms in it. (Obviously, some of those are not herbs, but nonetheless, those are the base for much of what I cook.) I love cooking with fresh rosemary, dill and mint, when the are available locally.

Where can I buy herbs for my vaporizer?

I have a vaporizer. Where can I buy herbs (not cannabis) like sage, marshmallow and all the other ones that people rave about for health benefits? Do I buy fresh herbs (sage, lavender) and crush them up or do I have to buy them dried?

Any help would be great. Thanks.

Where can I buy herbs for my vaporizer?
I don't know how well these herbs would be in a vaporizer. They need to be taken internally for full effects. Essential oils can be used in vaporizers, but I don't know about herbs.

Google herb suppliers and you'll find many places to order from. Natural health/whole food stores will carry them, too.

Use twice the amount fresh you would use dry, by the way.
Reply:Hey check out www.spellspot.com. This is where I get all of my herbs.
Reply:It would not be advisable to use those herbs in your vaporizer they could clog the plumbing. Probably use some essential oils of what you're wanting to obtain.
Reply:if you ARE in the uk,,,if anyone on this is IN the UK???? Culpepper,, the Herbalist
Reply:if you have alternative stores (like wiccan/pegan stores) near you, they usually sell them. you can also try health food stores, like trader joes or something like that, they usually have an isle devoted to herbal things. i cant think of the store i'm really trying to think of... mental block... its not wegmans, not trader joes (tho they do have some stuff)

whole foods! thats it. they have lots of that stuff.

if you can get fresh thats better. you can also search on-line.
Reply:you would be better of using fresh herbs and mashing or crushing the plant part and put a some boiling water onto them then just leave them to steep or you could use dried herbs put you would have to put them into a pan with cold water and slowly bring to the boil reduce heat and simmer down to a quarter of its original volume (10minutes or longer) then put into to your vaporizer until you will also have to crush or bruise these to release their active principles

Do you think that white nursery furniture is suitable for baby boys?

Does white seem to girlie to put in a sage green and yellow nursery?

Do you think that white nursery furniture is suitable for baby boys?
Those colors are great neutrals, and calming colors. Very appropriate and cute.
Reply:if its a darker green and not a pastel it'll fit for a girl or boy.....

white is suitable for either

dark yellow-NOT pastel is suitable for either also
Reply:white can be used for boys if the furniture is not feminine. I noticed usually that the white cribs can sometimes look girly because of the design. But, if it's plain white furniture I think a boy can also use it.
Reply:I don't think it is girlie I think it is neutral. go for it!
Reply:whats wrong with white furniture for a boy? my son had a white crib.
Reply:It's not girlie at all, those colours are calm and serene. Perfect for any baby, boy or girl!
Reply:not at all! white goes with everything so it can be reused if you have a girl later on in life.

Besides, babies don't care about that kind of thing.
Reply:White with sage green and yellow, I think that is to girly. In general, if I see a white crib, I think girl.

But try paring it up with a darker color, like navy and touches of yellow and a sports theme, that seems more mascline.
Reply:Yes I have two boys and there furniture is all white never thought about that no one has said anything!
Reply:seems nice
Reply:I love white and see nothing wrong with it in a boys nursery!
Reply:I really don't think white is too anything. It's just furniture. The way you decorate the bed and the room is what gives it personality.
Reply:I absolutely love white baby furniture!! thats what im using in my baby boys nursery... i think it works really well with blue walls :)
Reply:Nothing wrong with white for a boy, white is a unisex color. My son had a white crib.
Reply:Yes White is fine...I am sure the bedding and stuff will be blue, and white and blue is a beautiful thing!
Reply:I think those would be great colors.
Reply:White is a good color for a boy or a girl.
Reply:I am about as anti "gender neutral" of a person as you will ever find .... I ride a Harley ... hang out at Stripclubs ... would be considered by most any "open minded person" as a biggotted chauvanist etc etc ..... and I would say that " white is alright " ..... man that sounds racists but I did not mean it to ... my wife did Navy Blue on the bottom3 ft of the room with white for the top portion of the walls above it and white chair rail with denim curtains and we got an almond all in one crib set ...... and walmart quit selling the model crib we bought and now just has it in white , and I would think it is acceptable for my son ........
Reply:I think white furniture works well for a boy or girl. As long as its not pink and purple I don't think he'll mind lol :)

Color of curtains and table covering?

In my bedroom have two windows and there is a small rounded table in between them. The walls are sage (green) and my comforter and accents are all lilac (purple). My question is, what color curtains should I get AND should it match the table covering which I will eventually get to cover the small table??? I was thinking beige or white. I think it might be too hard to match the green or purple I already have in there. What do you think?

Thanks!

Color of curtains and table covering?
I would go with white billowy curtains on the windows. For the tablecloth I would do a two step treatment with fabric. Put a white table cloth on the round table and drape a piece of beautiful fabric that hangs down about a foot from the tables edge. The fabric color would be either a lilac or a deep purple, whichever you like better. They may even have table toppers wherever you buy the tablecloth.
Reply:Go with an off white or bisque color for the windows - it allows for more light. I would accent the table to pick up the comforter with sage %26amp; lilac.

If you opt to make the windows and table the same color then focus on changing the fabric textures. For example: sheer and light fabric for the window and a heavy brocade for the table.
Reply:i like the beige idea

i think if you put to much green and

purple it wouldent look right
Reply:I think a purple and green patterned material for the curtains and table cloth. It doesn't have to be the same pattern, like maybe a stripe and a flowered. But if the prints don't match one should be a large pattern and on a small pattern.

The colors don't have to match the walls and coforter exactly. Actually I think a darker green and purple might look nice.

Or else you could go with the same color as your trim.
Reply:I suggest a golden apricot color. And yes, I think I would match the tablecloth to the curtains.
Reply:i like bright colors. so i would say for your windows yellow. for your table blue

I live in Phoenix, AZ. What's the best way to grow your own herbs?

I would like to grow basil, thyme, rosemary, sage, oregano, parsley, marjoram, and chives. Should I grow them indoors? They seem too delicate to be outside.

I live in Phoenix, AZ. What's the best way to grow your own herbs?
The list you give includes woody Mediterranean climate plants that will do well in Phoenix outdoors. Rosemary is a shrub that does not like to be in wet or humid conditions. Rosmarinus officinalis does best it a rather dry light, sandy loam. On a chalk soil it grows smaller, but is more fragrant.

http://www.gardeninginarizona.com/Plants...

http://www.gardeninginarizona.com/Plants...

Oregano and thyme are winter hardy herbs that need full sun. Oregano creeps so can grow along steps or rock walls easily. It will form a mound that can be sheared into shape. The major species include Origanum marjorana also known as sweet marjoram and Italian oregano O. vulgare ssp. hirtum.

O. marjorana can be tender but O. vulgare is hardy. They need a well drained, alkaline soil of no more than average fertility to flourish. They can become bitter with to much fertilizer and grow lax, spindly foliage developing poor fragrance because the oils are not made %26amp; stored properly when growing quickly.

http://www.gardeninginarizona.com/Plants...

Thyme is an enormous family divided into bush and creeping types. Orange balsam blooms first while English and Wedgwood bloom last in the bush category.

http://www.mountainvalleygrowers.com/thy...

http://www.mountainvalleygrowers.com/thy...

They are choosy about their soil. Thyme are shallow rooted so are easily frost heaved completely out of the soil in cold climates. In humid or damp areas they can develop rot.

They like sandy or rocky soil that is 1/2 sand and 1/2 average loam. They do not like acid soil so need lime or oyster shells added in those conditions. They need an inert mulch layer to keep surface moisture down but offering a chance to self-layer the lateral branches. An organic mulch will work because you are in an arid area.

Bush thymes may be trimmed in spring or after flowering to as much as 50% of their height or they can do well with several light shearings removing less than an inch at a time. Heavy shearing should never be done in summer. They require a dense mound of foliage to protect their main branches from desiccation in winter.

http://www.gardeninginarizona.com/Plants...

Basil is tender and needs much the same conditions as tomatoes. They like a dry surfaced, well drained soil. This means the water should be infrequent on the surface but available at depth. This means they do very well with flood irrigation or soaker hoses.

A bark or gravel mulch aids in keeping the surface dry. Thick organic mulch or sawdust keep the soil too cool for me in zone 7b but might work well for you. Poor soils impart a clove-like flavor while rich soils and excess moisture produce the licorice flavor.

Some basils are leggier than others so are less attractive outside the kitchen garden. Those with the best shape include Dark Opal, Spice, and Krishna.

http://www.gardeninginarizona.com/Plants...

Chives, Allium schoenoprasum, like a richer loam that stays moist. In hot areas they need shade at midday. These definately need an organic mulch. They may be a winter crop for you.

What are the spices effect on the health of humans?

I am writing a very serious paper on the real beneficial effect of a given spice on the health of a human being. If you have personally tested and know the real effect of a given spice (such as sage or cumin or ginger or cinammon or any other spice) please give me in a few words the specific effect and the benefit you have derived.Did it actually "cure" an illness or improved it to what extent --give percentage of success. This is a serious subject and hopefully I will get

very serious and dependable answers. Thanks.

What are the spices effect on the health of humans?
The only personal experience I have is of using cinnamon.

I started taking around 1 teaspoonfull twice a day after I became diabetic. I was put on prescribed meds at the time of diagnosis. I started using teh cinnamon about a month post diagnosis. A week or 2 later I started having low blood sugars. Went to doctor and meds halved. Continued....3 weeks later started having hypos again. Meds discontinued. I am now eating a sensible balanced diet (using only complex carbs) and taking the cinnamon for my diabetic control (which remains excellent);

How can I find the manufacturer of a french country antique cabbage rose quilt?

I am looking for the manufacturer of a french chic antique cabbage rose or also known as english rose garden quilt. I have found this quilt on Ebay and Overstock .com. On Overstock .com catalog #10087542. I also have a model #GL-WB0726.

This is a beautiful quilt with an antique tea background. With a romantic French blend of colors including melon rose and pink roses, butter yellow, sage green, rose and a touch or French periwinkle blue. It has several prints consisting of roses, wildflowers, vintage roses, and cabbage roses along with a ticking stripe and garlands of flowers.

I want to find the manufacturer to inquire about purchasing fabric to make window treatments. According to the two vendors I have found to have this item there are none available.

Any help is appreciated,

Pat

How can I find the manufacturer of a french country antique cabbage rose quilt?
I'm sorry, I couldn't find the manufacturer for you. An alternative is to take samples of the fabric (say, the shams) with you to a quilt shop and try to find something similar, or at least complementary. That style is very similar to some popular fabrics currently available. Check out Hancocks of Paducah, an excellent online quilting and home decorating fabric store. Search or browse through the florals. One designer in particular to check out is Three Sisters by Moda fabrics. They have several lines that have a similar feel. Check out Faded Memories, the Three Sisters Favorite (especially Paris Flea Market), and Seaside Rose. These are just the ones available through Hancocks - also check out eBay for Moda Three Sisters, Gingham Rose, or ask your local quilt shop if they have any of these lines (or similar fabrics).

Good luck - it's a beautiful set.
Reply:the seller from ebay didn't say where they got the quilt?

How bad will these types of flowers spread?

I bought a bag of Butterfly %26amp; Hummingbird Attracting flower seeds. What I would like someone to tell me is if these are the types of flowers that will spread all over my (and my neighboors') yard. Here's the seeds:

Baby's Breath

Zinnia

Chinese Forget Me Not

Bachelor Button

Cosmos Sensation

Candytuft

Shasta Daisy

Black-Eyed Susat

Alyssum

Scarlet Sage

Foxglove

Also, are these flowers ones that will come back year after year?

How bad will these types of flowers spread?
Cosmos are self re seeding and will spread , Black eyed susan will spread. What zone are you in? This will determine if they are considered hardy in your zone. Tender perennials are plants that in Southern zones are usually hardy, but in more temperate climates will only be annual. Foxglove, Forget me nots, and Baby's Breath(Gypsophilia) are generally perennials in all zones. You will have Cosmos re seeding every year, but not the same plants coming back.Black Eyed Susan can become a nuisance, seeding itself every where, becoming invasive.
Reply:Bachelor buttons spread to a degree, but they're not that invasive. The others are all fine. The zinna, cosos, candytuft, alyssum will last one year. The foxglove, bachelor button, daisy and black eyed susan should come back. I'm not sure about the scarlet sage or chinese forget-me-not, I don't recognize their names as flowers that I have seen or planted.I think your butterfly garden is pretty safe not to get out of control.
Reply:The foxgloves are biennials - they make a plant the first year amn may not flower until the next. then they will seed and new plants will appear in surprising places, but they are easy to pull out if you don't want them. Cant tell you awhat the others will do as it could depend on where you live.
Reply:some will depend on your Zone and how good your ground is. My last place I culdnt get Cosmos to grow, here it self seeds all over the place Forget me nots will also take over by slef seeding if its happy and Black eyed Susan is a perennial that spreads both by self seeding and by spreading by runners. Never grew Baby's Breath...Zinna like to self seed, as do bachelors buttons and daisys Foxgloves have to really like their soil to ..
Reply:Naa, won't spread. Not absolutely positive, but they all sound like annuals - - this year only unless you save seeds for next year. They will create seeds. If have concerns, pluck off the dead flowers %26amp; dispose of them or save seeds for next year. If saving seeds, make sure they are thoroughly dried out, zip lock bag %26amp; label with marker what is in it %26amp; what color.

The best thing I ever did was buy a perennial book for plants, trees, flowers that return each year. Then periodically I add annual seeds of different flowers in front %26amp; around my permanent plantings. I marked each item in that book for my zone. I can not pick %26amp; choose for sun/shade, height, color and when %26amp; how long they bloom. I also created my yard on a graph paper with each square as a foot. This helped over the years for fencing, plantings, fountain, etc... Each perennial I marked a number on my 'blueprint' and the explanation of its name, etc.. on the back for future use.

Lot of work, but it reduces remeasuring over the years and moving some plants again and again.

I got myself on a catalog mailing list through Gurney's, Burbee's, etc... which allowwed additional options other than what is being sold in my city only. Prices was cheaper, too.

Wedding reception centerpiece to make. On a budget, but still want elegance?

I am getting married in a month and cannot find anything I really like. I am making the centerpieces myself. I really like flowers and candles. The reception room has a very romantic feel to it with large wooden beams that are lite up and large stone fire places. The colors are ivory, sage green, gold, and pink. Also, I am getting married outside the location on the water and am arriving in a horse and carriage if anyone has suggestions for the centerpieces that involve either of those. Please help! :)

Wedding reception centerpiece to make. On a budget, but still want elegance?
Find inexpensive mirror tiles, place one in the center of each of your tables. Top with a glass vase (you can buy at walmart for less than $2.00 each), half fill with distilled water, float in a couple of flowers that match your wedding colors and a floating candle. The lights reflected on the mirror will be so beautiful.
Reply:Thanks, that's exactly what I am going to do. Also, I am putting votive candle holders on the mirrors with a couple different size vases. Thanks again! Report It
Reply:I made all of mine, too. Centerpieces, bouquets, all that stuff.

My best advice to you is a visit to your local craft store. (I had pretty good luck at Michael's.) They have all kinds of shapes of floral foam, and some silk flowers you can't tell aren't real. (And so much less expensive than the real thing!)

I'm thinking you could get a trio of really tall candle holders in a gold finish, and some nice nice ivory or sage candles, then surround them with silk flowers in pink, cream, and soft green foliage. Maybe some vine types that you can wind up into the candleholders, too. For your water theme, you can get bags of beach glass (It's frosted from the sand and waves) in a soft sagey color, and use that as kind of an edging.

You may have to trust someone to get this stuff set up at the location for you, but DIYing your flowers saves a pile of money.
Reply:You can buy large glass bowls real cheap at craft stores. Buy bags of flat colored marbles, I would use just one color, maybe green. Then buy floating flower candles, pink sounds pretty. Put layer of marbles in glass bowl add water, put in floating candle. Very elegant. It should cost only $3-$4 per centerpiece. I used to set up weddings and this is a very beautiful and elegant centerpiece.
Reply:We were at a wedding that had some really simple, elegant centerpieces. They were round glass fishbowl type vases about 4-5 inches in diameter. They put some colored stones in the bottom and wrapped some leaves from some grassy plants around the inside of the bowl. The filled the bowl about half way and floated a flower in the vase. They probably cost a couple of dollars a piece to make.
Reply:Well, if you lived anywhere near central Missouri, I would let you use the 30 centerpieces I have in my garage. I bought a glass bowl that is low and kind of flat, added a white small flower candle ring inside and then added a white pillar candle in the center. They were very elegant and didn't cost much at Hobby Lobby. I used three different size of pillars so it make each table kind of look a little different. I have also seen people take this low flat kind of clear glass bowl (it's almost like a smashed fishbowl) and add water with blue food coloring and some floating candles.
Reply:go to flea markets garage sales etc--get brandy snifters of graduated sizes and in the bottom put those glass pieces you can get at any dollar store to match you colors--say maybe gold and clear--put about 1/3 in the bottom of snifter and you could put a pillar candle of matching color--or silk flower or both--you can get a person at a grocery floral place to save the pink and white rose pedals for you and sprinkle them on the tables and to look real elegant you should get clear crystal type taper candle holders and then get your candles at the dollar store (taper) for a little of nothing and have them everywhere--get bud vases and tie a pink narrow width bow around them--and put a single pink rose in each for your tables--get the cloth look white table cloths for your table--most card shops and walmarts carry them--use crystal bride and groom glasses and tie small bow on them==babys breath looks very elegant with the flowers also--you can get small gold horses at a craft store and make a carriage to go with it for a centerpiece Hang bells (walmart) from those wooden beams get a couple of clear vases at yard sales and

flea markets and make a floral arrangement yourself with a few sprigs of fern, baby's breath and roses--roses always look elegant and the green and pink will go with your color motif--be sure to put candles and a centerpiece on the mantle of the Fireplace--also you can make favors using netting from the cloth store or walmart and small ribbon--get the gold hershey kisses and put them in white netting--that would look good--and then get baskets at yard sales, thrift stores or flea markets--spray paint white or gold and glue gun lace around your baskets to hold your favors--dont forget to get some bubbles and some crayon/coloring books etc for the kids who might come! you can get matches that say our wedding day on them--they aren't inscribed but still add that special touch! Also don't forget a guest book (get it at card shop) and a nice pen (goldtone) so that you will remember who all came to your reception-- Hope these ideas are helpful--and Congratulations!

Take some disposable cameras with you and hand them out to your family and ask them to take pictures for you--you can never have enough pictures even if you do have a professional photographer! People will end up getting different shots--things another person might not get! Have fun!

Can I save my indoor herb garden?

I have a small herb garden in a spare bathroom that I have placed a grow light in. Some plants are doing really well, while others aren't. I cut back most of the herbs in the fall but some of them haven't started growing new again. The bathroom stay cool but not too cold. We have a clothes dryer in there that we use but it doesn't get too hot or humid. Thoughts?

Here is what I have:

Doing Well:

Aloe x2

Lovage

Echinecea

Hanging on for dear life:

Patchouli

Stevia

Possibly dormant or dead?:

Sage

Mint - in own container

Pretty sure these are gonners:

Rosemary

Sweet Marjoram

Lemon Balm

* these three were potted together. Perhaps that is why they all perished.

Can I save my indoor herb garden?
You might want to do some research to find out whether or not the plants you are having trouble with are annuals or perennials. Most plants go through a dormant stage and look like they are dead but give them a month or two and they should spring back.
Reply:They should be potted seperately. My step dad is a horticultural Architect.I asked and he says you can pot them individually and that will help them grow a little better.

Questions for caring for my new garden?

Yesterday I planted two beefsteak tomato plants, a cayenne pepper plant and three June-bearing strawberry plants with a nice selection of herbs in between (chamomile, sage, basil, parsley, dill, etc.)

I amended the soil with some decayed cow manure and sprinkled the transplanted plants with warm water. Other than that, I haven't done anything to them.

I was wondering if anyone knows if there's anything else I need to do in the meantime. I plan to continue watering them for another week barring any rain. Thanks!

Questions for caring for my new garden?
Continue to watch the weather in case of frost advisories (if there is one, the plants need to be covered to prevent from freezing).

Don't over water, but don't underwater.

If you plan on using chemical fertilizer, read the packaging to see when the best time for application is.

You may want to steak out your tomato plants now as beefsteak are large tomatoes. You can also pluck the bottom couple of shoots/leaves from the tomato plant to promote upward growth rather than outward.
Reply:you better find some stakes to hold up the tomatoes because those produces a lot of tomatoes at once and then they start leaning over and breaking. Strawberries requires more water then others and also water close to the soil and not the leaves or they will burn in the light. and irrigate your soil once every 2 to 3 weeks so the water and compost or fertilizer you are using can get to the roots. But don't water them too often unless you are in that hot heat then you need to water it more frequently. hopes it works for you.
Reply:Be carefull for over watering. Damp conditions can affect germinations. Keep the soil moist and warm if possible. Constant heat is very important.

Marc
Reply:be prepard for another frost jeff, other than mulching to keep the weeds down ,it sounds like you got er going on.
Reply:There's not really much else you can do. You can put some straw around them. That will help keep down the weeds and help hold in moisture, but I'd wait till the plants get a little bit bigger before doing that. Straw can attract cut worms or slugs which can kill your tomato plants when they are young.

Just don't overwater the plants, that can cause the roots to rot. It won't affect the tomatoes so much, but the rest of the plants especially the pepper and basil...watering it too much could drown them out.
Reply:If you have not worked the land before you may want to add more manure or a vegi fertilizer next week. Large amounts of water are the key to getting the plants rooted and growing well. Depending on the size of the tomato plants you might want to start training them to a stake or cage now so you do not have to worry about it later when extensive damage can be done easily.

Water is the biggest thing though.

What spices go good with chicken dishes?

Sage is often used for fowl, especially turkey.

Any others?

What spices go good with chicken dishes?
Spice it any way you like! Spice it up with garlic, or Spanish saffron, or rosemary, or tarragon, or MINT!!!! or ground up peanuts or cashews, or ginger or super goatweed if you must. Heck, grind up some dried banana slices in a mortar and pestle and cake the bird flesh in powdered banana! Get creative. Put whatever you like on it. BUT...

PLEASE -- rub the bird with the spices, don't soak the birds in the spices. Soaking is for cow, pig, goat, lamb.

I find marinades ruin bird meat, and rabbit meat. If it can hop, then rub it; if it can't hop, then marinade it.

Does sage really work?

Or is it a placebo effect?

I dont ask this in the intent to be a skeptic! I am actually quite the idealist... therefor I make myself question my idealism!

What have your experiences been using sage (in regards to energy cleansing or other simular purposes...)

I think it's worked for me... ! But who knows! Maybe it works bc I was told it does :) (Get my drift?!)

Thanks in advance my friends :)

Does sage really work?
Sage

has been used by the American Indian people for years......It is used in the Sweat Lodges Round Houses.

Sage

is used for cleansing thoughts and body

I believe it worked for you and I have used it for years and it works for me also!!!!!!!

I have used it to in a Sweat Lodges and Round Houses.....

I have and continue to use sage and each year I gather sage and make bundles for myself and family members
Reply:It can be used to make sage tea, which is a refreshing drink, particularly popular in Europe, in the Middle Ages. Gargling with common sage (Salvia Officinalis) tea, helped strengthen gums and keep teeth white and was also a well-known, sometimes very effective laryngitis and sore throat cure. Sage tea can also be used to relieve the discomfort of measles, dizziness, colds, fever, and headaches.

The addition of milk and honey, (as a natural sweetener), made a stimulating drink, enjoyed just as much today as in the Middle Ages. Sage is a natural aid in digestion, and when consumed moderately, the tea can boost insulin activity and reduce blood sugar, thus possibly being a help to diabetics, but your doctor should be consulted before drinking sage tea, if you are diabetic. Never use sage tea to replace your normal drinks, either. It should be noted that this, drunk in excess can be toxic, so should, by recommendation, be saved for special occasions, as a well-deserved treat.

Hera are the treatments in which sage is used.
Reply:That's the way most things work -because of our perception of things.

I think it works and can feel a difference.

Sage-smoking is good?

I heard smoking sage instead of tobacco cleans your respiratory system, unlike tobacco. Is this true?

Sage-smoking is good?
Usually sage is not smoked, as in inhaled. White sage (Salvia apiana) is burned like incense, to clean the air. (Native Americans burn it to cleanse a home of bad spirits.)

Read about it here: http://www.frontiercoop.com/dspCmnPrd.ph...

Cooking Sage (Salvia officinalis) has some hormonal effects and is brewed into a tea to relieve hot flashes %26amp; to stop milk flow in nursing mothers. It is not to be used by persons w/ high blood pressure or epilepsy, in pregnancy or if there is blood in the urine.

Mullein leaf is sometimes smoked to clear up the lungs when a person has a bad, mucousy cough. It is typically used only 3x in a day, though.

If you want a healthier alternative to tobacco smoking, try herbal cigarettes from the health food store. Here is one popular brand: http://www.honeyrose.co.uk/
Reply:There's confusion between 2 distinctly different varieties of sage. The type smoked for medicinal %26amp; mystical purposes is salvia divinorum - NOT the same as what's commonly burned in native American ritual to smudge. MORE INFO @ http://reference.com/search?q=...

Reply:smoking is harmful no matter what ways it is not true but sage smoking i have done a research it is all right
Reply:All smoke has tar in it. It's the smoke, not the tobacco, that clogs your lungs. If you want to clean your respiratory system, you don't inhale smoke and you stay away from smoke. A lot of naive people believe it's healthy to smoke weed and sage because, instead of being educated about the dangers of smoking, they were brainwashed to hate tobacco companies.

Scorpian stings..again and again.. why this sage trying to save it ?

A river. To reach that end, we have to cross the river, since no bridge there. A sage who while crossing the river, saw a scropian struggling for life. This sage in order to save the life of the scrorpian, picks it by hand, but the scrorpian stings him again and again. The sage doesn't care the sting saves the life of the creature. Even know fully it is poisounous, why this sage try to save the creature ?

Scorpian stings..again and again.. why this sage trying to save it ?
i would guess the sage does not believe the scorpion does it to be vicious, the scorpion does it because it is scared, or can not help it physically or is ignorant in such a way that the sage believes it is still the right thing to do for the scorpion.

the sage believes all life, generally are for good, not evil

the scorpion stinger is for protection, not for striking for no reason.
Reply:I would assume because the sage believes all life is sacred, and is willing to sacrifice his own comfort to save another life.
Reply:Each does what they must in life. The sage must honor and preserve life. The scorpion must sting. That is their nature.

Are fushia, purple and sage green bad colors for a Sept wedding?

September 1st is my big day! I'm having the hardest time trying to find a color scheme. Really want something nice and elegant...but yet has some color.

Things I was thinking:

1) BM dresses will be black with fushia, yellow and sage green flowers

OR

2) BM dresses will be fushia with fushia, purple and sage green flowers?

The chairs at the reception will have white covers with blk sash and fushia flowers in back. Flowers in center will be fushia, sage green and yellow/purple.

What you think....am I way off:)? HELP ME PLEASE:)))

Are fushia, purple and sage green bad colors for a Sept wedding?
Girl,

It doesn't really matter. It's YOUR day so choose whatever colour that you like.No.2 would be a better choice and I really love the colours you chose, really compliment each other and will look great in photographs!!

JUST DO IT :)

Congrats and all the best!
Reply:WOW...I'm in awh with mad luv in answers I've received. Thank you all for your honesty and support on making this decision for my special day....I really appreciate it:)))!!

Reply:Fushia is more of a spring wedding color - but accents of it would be nice. I'd do the black with hints of the fushia.

Best of luck and congrats on your special day
Reply:Do whatever you want. It really doesn't matter.
Reply:Change the colors to something complimenting the season AND expressing you individuality and love. Those three colors might clash a lot with nature. Yellow is a spring/summer color (except for winter when it would be very pale) Sage would also be spring, fuschia would be a summer color. Black is more of a winter color. I suggest you take your colors and burn them- not literally, make them more rusty and rich, there is no reason to throw out your favorite colors and replace them with a more hokey pilgrim version. darkend your green and purple, and make your yellow more of a gold than a sunflower. Perhaps trade in black bridesmaids dresses for very dark brown? Think of your original colors as leaves and fall hit the trees.
Reply:Fuschia is usually associated with spring and summer weddings.

I personally love sage green myself and I don't mind purple either but not together on a wedding day.

Why not have you maid of honour and bridesmaids in shades of purple or shades of green but not both!

However it is your day, tho I think I'd talk to a florist and a wedding planner and your mum and the groom's mum first.
Reply:I think the black is nice but for a summer wedding it might be better to lay off the black. The other colors are nice.
Reply:trow some silver in with the fuchsia
Reply:It really all depends on the hue (depth of color) you are talking about. Soft sage, pale lilac and pale fuchsia COULD work. Are you wanting a very tropical look with bright versions of these colors? You would really need to go to see a florist and have her pull the actual flowers together to see if they work in reality, rather than your head. Your first choice of black dresses, w/ fuchsia, yellow and sage sounds a little busy, but again...you have to pull it together and see how it looks. With the reception chair covers...the simpler the better. You don't need all that on a chair. If you want drama..make the centerpiece the focus, not the chair.
Reply:If you like it, that's all that matters. Since fuschia is so hard to match, I'd go for the black dresses. It'll make the colors of your flowers pop in the photography. Go for it.

Base and window trim are wood, should chair rail be wood or painted?

The area below the rail will be a sage green, above a beige, should I match the trim to the exiting trim, or to one of the colors? Or could I just paint it white to stand out more, and it would match doors and blinds and appliances in kitchen?

Base and window trim are wood, should chair rail be wood or painted?
Chair rail does not need to be the same as doors, blinds etc. In fact, if you would paint chair rail it would be much more interesting and make your room look delightful. You could go with white, as you said, for the chair rail or you could go with a darker green than you have on the bottom of wall or you could go with a darker beige than you have on the top of the wall. Either of these colors on the chair rail would make it go with the wall and not the doors and trim etc. By doing it that way the wall will be what someone notices. If you match chair rail to the doors etc then that is what people will notice and not the walls.
Reply:You should keep it the same color at least, preferably same stuff you use to stain the base. Trim paint or stain color is really a preference, and depends on your house style (dark is better for Victorian, lighter is more "country" style).

Just be careful not to have too many colors going on at once! It will make the room look "busy" and lack cohesion. SOME people like that...but most people find it disturbing! In general, the less contrast between trim and wall colors, the better.
Reply:wood, it matches
Reply:all your wood trim, including doors should be the same. so if you have bare wood trim, you need to keep the chair rail the same or it will stick out and look awkward in the room
Reply:ALL the moldings should match. . . . or it looks rediculous!

Personally i would paint the base/chair rail/window trim all white. Thats just my preference though. But if you like the wood look to the windows then the chair rail and base moldings should match it.
Reply:A lot depends on the type of home and the decor. A modern home may be mostly paint while a craftsman style should be all natural wood. Country homes can go either way; and so it goes.

I personally like the look of the wood grain and would go that way; I'd stain and polyurethane to match the existing woodwork.

Decorators would probably tell you to paint it, and all the rest of the woodwork as natural wood is "out" these days, but I think that the reason that stained wood is "out" is that it's more difficult to install properly and make it look right.

With painted woodwork you can fill voids and cracks with latex caulk and paint right over it. With natural wood you really need to spend more time doing it right, measuring and cutting to fit. Some wood filler may still be needed, but for my money, natural wood grain can't be beat for warmth and that homey feeling.

Paint suggestions to paint kitchen cabinets white?

Hi, I am planning on painting my kitchen cabinets white, but am unsure of what color white I should use. I hope to paint the walls a neutral off-white color also, but with sections under my chair-rail in the adjacent dining area and the soffet over my cabinets in sage. The trim will be bright white and I hope to eventually install an oak floor, tropical brown granite countertops, and I will be updating the cabinet hardware with satin nickel. The appliances will be a combo of black and stainless. Appreciate any cabinet and neutral wall color suggestions that work with this. Thanks!

Paint suggestions to paint kitchen cabinets white?
I painted my cabinets a off-white. Not shiny white. That will show any imperfections. They are distressed with brushed nickel handles. The walls are a pretty yellow. I know you want to go neutral, but do not paint the walls anywhere near the same color as the cabinets. An off white neutral with white cabinets will not do a thing for you. You need to go with a color (pastel) to make the room pop. I accented with red and the room pops. It looks great. Try painting the walls the sage green. It will look teriffic! Good Luck!
Reply:not whita anything but white in a kitchen, try a nice brick red color almost a rust look.
Reply:With brown countertops, go with a color called 'swiss coffee' for your cupboards, and a color that is called 'ginger root' or 'louisiana hot sauce' for the walls. If you cannot find these colors, they are available at Cloverdale Paint.
Reply:What color/finish are the cabinets now? If they are in bad shape, you could try a white/ivory but too much white, or too much gloss will look like the inside of a freezer.

What color is the backsplash [ between counter and cabinets ]?

What color accessories out on counters [ canisters, coffeepot, toaster, etc. ] ? Appliance covers can all be same color

Any curtains/valence?

The oak floor sounds great with the 'cool' colors of the black/stainless/nickel finishes, but I would add a little more warmth/color.

Can you finish the cabinets in oak? That would look great with all your appliances and color choices!

If you still want the cabinets to be white, then the walls need to be a different color, maybe a solid color under chair rail and wide stripes of that color and white.

Kitchens should definitely be the favorite color of the chief cook, because you spend so much time there.

Yay for sure on the goose and duck - I had a grandmother that used to do both of those on Christmas Day! And the potatoes, stuffing and sauces sound divine - though I have to say I have never had Christmas Pudding!

Actually, today, I am giving a trial run to a new herb-encrusted Leg of Lamb recipe to see how it is - hoping to do it for Christmas, myself! Oh, and I'm thinking of just roasted potatoes and fennel along side, plus maybe with some asparagus. Still debating on dessert! Wish me luck!

How Can I Get Grease Out of a Light Carpet?

We just had a light sage green carpet installed yesterday. My father, brain surgeon that he is, turned our office chair upside down and fiddled with the wheels on the carpet, and spilled some grease into the carpet. So we had it less than 3 hours and it was stained. We tried using some generic carpet cleaner on it, but now instead of one dark spot, we have a small area of slightly darker carpet. It's set overnight, but it wasn't vaccuumed. Does anyone have any tips for getting the rest of the stain out without damaging the carpet? If I can't get this out, I'm just going to cry :P

How Can I Get Grease Out of a Light Carpet?
i would try waterless hand cleaner like mechanice use. it washes out grease very well and doesn't fade anything. rub it on the spot, then take a damp washcloth with a LITTLE bit of dish soap on it, and rub it. follow with a clean wet washcloth. that should do it. i get my husbands tracked in oil from the garage off my beige carpet with no problem.
Reply:Try dawn dishwashing detergent. A small amount on the carpet with some water. Then if you have a shampooer, use it to rinse the carpet. Worked on mine, and it is ivory colored. Good Luck!
Reply:Hi I belive there is a special carpet clearner called Resolve carpet cleaner. Just go to I belvie any store and go to the cleaning section and look for "resolve" carpet cleaner. And look on the bottle to see if it fits your needs. I tried using it and it works.
Reply:I got help from this guide http://www.allhomerepairsyourself.com/be...
Reply:SIMPLE GREEN!!!! AMAZING STUFF!!! You can get it at Walmart.
Reply:Cleaning solution, this solution was originally made for windows but it works wonders on tons of things including carpet.

Get a spray bottle, some household ammonia, and dawn dishwashing liquid, approx 10% ammonia, then about 4 - 6 drops of Dawn and top with water, give it a shake. Apply to the area and then brush it up and no more grease.

good luck.
Reply:Use Resolve Carpet Cleaner!
Reply:Try putting a small amount of lighter fliud on it let s mins. then wash off., using a damp white cloth and dabbing it. If that don't work try making a paste with baking soda and water . let that set for a few mins. then scrub.
Reply:Oohh nooo! thats such a shame, well try that vanish stuff...you know, the ones that they advertise...or my brother uses this car upholstry cleaner, it works a charm...ask a male in your family, they may know what i am talking about, its great - you just spray the foam and wipe away...

Hope it gets out
Reply:Dawn dishwashing soap.... should do the trick. great on grease.

What colors would look good for a fall wedding?

I am getting married in Sept. I love Chocolate brown and am looking to pair it with something other than pink or blue. I was thinking sage green, but I would also like to use an orange or apple red color as well, just so it doesn't look too earthy.... Any thoughts?

What colors would look good for a fall wedding?
orange %26amp; brown %26amp; yellow would be really pretty. My cousin used those colors last year and her wedding was gorgeous.
Reply:Sage is a beautiful fall color. Cranberry, gold, copper are all beautiful as well.
Reply:I would go with the sage! Chocolate and sage with maybe a little burgundy in the flowers would be beautiful!
Reply:like a dark/light green
Reply:My daughter was maried in October. She used all fall colors. It was gorgeous. Dresses were a celery green. Flowers were fall. COuldn't have been nicer.
Reply:Beautiful fall colors - burnt orange, copper, gold, sage, burgundy, and creams
Reply:I think if you used Chocolate and sage green it may be difficult to match flowers other than cream roses (which would look nice).

But, with chocolate, apple red, and orange even burnt orange would look nice. Lillies comes with those colors. You can tie the red and orange flowers with a chocolate brown ribbon (bouquet).
Reply:I know brown has been popular, but I'm worried that it will look dated. How about some nice rich colors like the apple red you mentioned and gold or copper? I got married last October and did brick red and champagne, with some gold thrown in. I loved it, but it was tricky to find stuff to match! But a nice cranberry red would be beautiful as a primary color.
Reply:chocolate and cream, rusty orange, or red. something like that. just think of the leaves when they turn colors in the fall
Reply:Chocolate brown with burnt orange would look perfect for fall. You could even add accents of golden yellow or a deep red/plum color here %26amp; there. Any bold colors you see on the leaves during fall will look great.
Reply:Chocolate looks great with a combination of sage, deep red, gold and copper/orange.

The fall board in the talk section at theknot.com has a ton of pictures for inspiration.

Will my plants come back after freeze?

We just had record lows here in So. Cal and my geraniums, potato tree, sage, butterfly bush, and birds of paradise all look dead. Will they come back?

Will my plants come back after freeze?
Don't fertilize them. The plants are stressed and fertilizing them in that state is another stress. It will hurt more than help. Some of them are pretty fragile as far as temp is concerned. The one's Calla mentioned shoud definitely make it. If the roots are undamaged there's a good chance the others will come back. The only way you'll know for sure is to wait. Don't overwater--you don't want to stress the roots. You can fertilize lightly when you see new growth.
Reply:Check the roots, if they are fine, they will come back when weather gets better. When you get that weather, fertilize them slightly mostly with nitrogen and phosphorous (you can use commercial mixture like 9-45-15, 0.002lbs/plant each time you irrigate them). Don′t water them heavily try frequently instead. Until you get betters weather just water them slightly also...good luck
Reply:The sage and butterfly bush will come back as I live in Ontario,Canada and mine come back every year. I do not know about your other plants, but don't do anything yet leave them and see, hopefully they will. You can cover them with plastic or burlap. I hope they come back for you.
Reply:The sage and butterfly bush will, not sure about the others, don't cut them off yet, wait till spring.
Reply:I had the same problem with my plants here in AZ. I was told by the nursery that they should come back as long as I fertilize them well now and again in the spring. I'm a beginner so I'm curious how others will answer your question. Good luck!

Which color should I paint my living room?

I'm thinking of putting up sage, peach or burgundy and white drapes?

If you can send me the sites with the color schemes or room displays.

Which color should I paint my living room?
I would suggest "Jersey Cream" by Sherwin Williams. It's a peach-beige %26amp; will look very inviting in the living room.

http://sherlink.sherwin.com/swapp/color_...
Reply:Tans-sans would be good. Pick your paint color and such from furniture-use brighter or darker colors as accents.

Try HGTV.com and DIY networks sites
Reply:I think everybody is overlooking one really important thing. What do you have in the room? Whatever color you paint the room should go with whatever furniture and knick-knacks you want to keep in the room.

I'd recommend getting the smallest amount of paint you can get of the two or three colors you like most. Then get a couple pieces of cardboard or an old cardboard box and cut it up into about 12"x12" sections. Paint two coats of paint on each piece then slap a ring of painters tape on the back and stick them up on the walls around your furniture and other things in the room.

This gives you nice large samples to look at and compare against your furniture. It makes it so you can actually stand back and see whether it would look good or not.

I think it's incorrect to advise someone blindly without even knowing what they have in the room as far as colors.
Reply:khaki
Reply:a real light mocha color would be very pretty
Reply:cherry red
Reply:peach would look lovely with whie drapes.
Reply:Off white is the safest color where you can add furniture/paintings/almost any colors in the room and still look nice.

When is the best time to plant?

I want to grown my own herbs like: Parsley, Basil, Sage.. things like that. When is the best time of year to plant them, and is there a special soil, way to plant them or do you just plant them like everything else?

When is the best time to plant?
Most perennial herbs are hardy plants that are able to survive winter, but one should check their specific zone map to be sure. Most Herbs prefer to grow in well-drained soils, and soils that are heavy should be amended with organic matter to loosen the clay structure. Another method of improving drainage is to plant the herbs in raised beds. Plants that are marginally hardy (such as rosemary %26amp; Greek oregano) should be dug up, potted, and wintered indoors. They can be moved back to the garden the following spring.

Herbs are classified either as *Annuals, *Biennials, or *Perennials. Annual herbs are usually grown from seed; they grow, flower, and produce seed during one season, and then die. Biennial herbs grow for two seasons, flowering the second year only. Perennial herbs, once established, come back each season. Some herbs are Tender Perennials; these do not survive severe winters and are best grown as annuals or wintered indoors.

Reply:That depends on where you live. If you are in the middle and upper part of the country, try just growing some inside in a sunny window. If you live in an area where you have no winter, you can plant outside usually any time. Check your library for books on herbs, for some have different soil requirements, although many are not fussy and grow in even poorer soils. They do need sun and water of course.
Reply:The best time to plant is early spring to spring. A good organic soil will be the best. Nive sandy loam soils with some organic contents will do you well.
Reply:The best time is during the rainy season. You can use soft soil (black is preferred) and just add some natural manure, bone meal. This would help the herbs to grow better.
Reply:Do you live North of the Equator, in Afganistan, Alaska?

There is no one answer, or do you think we're all pshchic?
Reply:Herbs are versatile plants. They will grow happily in most environments and suit small gardens well. They don't demand lots of nourishment; provided the ground has been dug and weeded, they will grow happily without additional fertilizers.

It is important however to, choose herbs to much your soil and water them well during their first spring and summer and in particular during hot spells. To save your self a lot of work choose herbs that will enjoy your garden soil. Mint, Parsley, Chives for example they like rich cool soil. Sun loving herbs such as Sage Lavender and and Rosemary may rot away in a cold wet winter if the soil is heavy. If your soil is unsuitable for certain herbs, consider growing them in containers.
Reply:The annuals -- parsley, basil-- you plant in spring

The perennials -- sage -- you can plant spring or fall

Basic dirt is ok, check the individual plant

Herbs are like weeds %26amp; generally pretty easy.

Is it okay to set up a nursery while you are trying to conceive?

We are going to start trying for our first baby in 3 months. My wife bought a gender neutral nursery set that she loved recently because it was being discontinued.

I was going to take everything out of our guest room and make that the baby's room. I was going to paint it now a before she gets pregnant. Its going to be sage green, so its okay for a boy or girl.

Should we just keep all the nursery stuff in the closet and keep the newly painted room empty?

Is it okay to set up a nursery since we were given a used crib and dresser from friends?

Should we wait until she is 3 months pregnant? Or is one month pregnant okay?

All the nursery stuff is in the packaging still.

When do you usually set up the baby's room?

Is it okay to set up a nursery while you are trying to conceive?
Sounds fine to me! As long as it's gender neutral it should be okay. Also, it's a good idea to paint the room before she gets pregnant because the paint fumes could harm the baby. BUT, if you set up all the furniture now then she won't have anything to do in that "nesting" stage...but hey, do what ya want and congrats on the soon-to-be pregnancy :-)
Reply:I think it is a great idea.

However some people are very superstitious about it and will not even put a bed in the future kid's room until after they have delivered their baby. Their worry is that if anything goes wrong they will be heartbroken and will not be able to stand the sight of that baby furniture.
Reply:Personally I waited a long time before I actually started buying anything. Last thing I wanted to do was get everything ready and end up having a miscarriage or something. I know its a horrible thing to think but I think that all first time parents feel that way. Good luck!

Reply:I say wait.........you never know what is going to happen and if anything bad does happen then it will hurt so bad to look at it. I am at 22 weeks and just found out it's a girl..and I have barely started to buy things..........
Reply:well i started buying baby clothes then i miscarried and its hard to look at them now, so i would wait until she is out of the miscarriage threat stage then do it, good luck
Reply:Sounds like a waste of time. You should have more sex instead because then you'll get pregnant and actually have a reason to set it up sooner. I think you know that it's not a great idea because if you have trouble getting pregnant or have an early miscarriage, it will be heartbreaking to see that every day. Sounds like you both are really looking forward to being pregnant, which is good, but don't put too much emphasis on it or you won't be able to relax and enjoy it. Plus, people who come over to your house will think you are CRAZY.
Reply:Do whatever feels right to you. It really does not matter when you set up the nursery. Do not repeat this to your wife, but it is actually going to be easier to setup the nursery now, then when she is pregnant and her hormones are on a rampage. Good luck, my friend, there is nothing quite like spending time with a pregnant woman.
Reply:I would recommend to wait atleast till she is 3 months pregnant.. noone knows how long it will take for them to get pregnant. You will get emotionally attached to the nursery once you set it up and if you take long to get pregnant, it may become stressful for you.

Three months pregnant is a great time... you will have minimised the risk of miscarriage by then and then you can set the nursery up as a celebration!
Reply:we have 3 kids and usually start to set baby′s room at the 4th. mont.

If you are trying to conceive may be you put your wife in a lot of pressure (seeing the nursery every day).

I think you better concentrate your energy to "make" that baby.
Reply:It sounds like a good idea because things will be getting done before pregnancy. You never know if she will be sick and not be able to handle tending to the nursery. BUT at the same time if yall end up having problems conceiving it might be hard to look at.
Reply:Go for it.

If you are going to have a baby then let her do all this now BEFORE she has to deal with being Preggo.

It sucks having to setup a nursery while you are Preggo but it can be fun before in the start.

What do you care... you are having fun with your part of the deal. Right ??
Reply:ok that i beleve is jinksing it hunny and i would wate unitll the 5 mo mark and i wated untill the sex of the baby was told to me by sonagram and hunny (the rate of misscrige goese down by 75% then)

my husbands sis has misscarried 3 times over that so just do what you feel is right

GOOD LUCK AND HAVE FUN TRYING ;)
Reply:Set up the room. I do not believe in the jinx thing. Use the time you have now, wisely, because after the baby, time disappears.

My wife and I have 7 children, 5 still at home.

Believe me, the time disappears.

God bless you guys.
Reply:All these questions should be answered by you and your wife. Your opinion most likely will be what you're happiest with!

Good luck!!
Reply:I had set up my nursery with my first pregnancy only to learn I miscarried. It was very upseting and I hated looking at all the baby stuff. So we took it all down and passed everything on to pregnant friends, etc. Now we are trying again for baby #1,and I DID go out and buy an adorable onsie!! I am going to paint the room in the new house we bought, only I will NOT set up the nursery yet,I will personally wait till the 2nd trimester before I do that. Good luck to you and your wife tho!!
Reply:I personalyy think start setting it up right when she becomes pregnant. The only problem with it, well at least I found was I became a bit obsessed I am due in two weeks and even though her room is absolutly perfect a still try to find things to make it better. Its called nesting which she will experience as well. Also I have had a few people in the family a bit upset because now they have really slim pickings on what to buy for the baby. The best thing left to buy is tickle me elmo. So keep in mind about baby showers. Oh and make sure you fill out all the registry papers and send them back, since you are buying early there may be a recall on something you buy so then they will let you know asap instead of just hopefully finding out about it. Good luck, have fun

What are some good ways to advertise and market and debut book?

I have just recently published my first book, 'a cup of sugar and an ounce of sage' I have a website which allows you to read the first chapter www.chiquia.com and I have a my space as well. Every one that knows me or knows someone that knows me are the only ones that have read my book and everyone that's read it have enjoyed it more than they thought they would. I would like to get some people that I don't really know to read it.

What are some good ways to advertise and market and debut book?
If you are self-publishing, you can arrange to sell your book on Amazon. com, you will have to contact them to find out the details.

Once you are in the Amazon database, you can have your friends write reviews for you, and you can create a search that will link your book to books with a similar subject matter.

Also I would send copies of it to book reviewers who work for major newspapers and magazines, such as the New York Times, Washington Post, Seventeen. As many as you can think of. Get creative with it. Even your local paper or your college newspaper will do. Just get it out there.

Another option would be to sell copies of your book to bookstores that deal only with independent publishers, you will have to do your own research on this. But you could talk to the owner of a small bookstore in your area, they might agree to let you sell some copies there.

However, I would recommend sending it out to an agent, it could make your life a whole lot easier.

Below is the website for Sterling Lord Literistic.

Good Luck!!!
Reply:For one, a more profressional site would help. I actually have the exact same template as you (www.amandahubbard.com) just until my agent sells my book (on submissions as of last thursday) and i can pay a professional web designer. Your headlines dont fit in the boxes so it looks kind of goofy.

The major newspapers dont review POD books, atleast not unless you've sold tons of copies. Your time would be better spent editing your book or learning the craft so that you can write an even better one. There were some elementary issues that should be corrected, that I've learned through my own few years of writing/studying, and I've now got a literary agent, which is a pretty big deal.

So for this book, develop a web presence. A good way is to sign up at livejournal.com and friend other aspiring writers, and keep your journal focused on writing. Link it to your webpage. Make your webpage more professional. You probably wont be breaking any sales records but hopefully you can earn what it cost you to make the first book and eventually go the 'traditional' route of major publisher or agent then publisher.
Reply:Do book signings in libraries and bookstores.
Reply:you can also talk to people at writers confrences. look up your genre %26amp; get involved.
Reply:I agree with the first answer, however, before sending it to a publisher, I'd get a professional proofreader to correct any errors....it really does make a difference! Good Luck!!!! (I liked the first chapter......)

How or where does one draw the line between Truth and Expedience?

I freely confess to a preference towards Truth, despite any potential material cost. Finding myself in such a defining situation, I have been somewhat surprised to encounter so many wise friends offering 'counsel' to seek potential material personal gain as a more 'enlightened' approach then to stand upon basis principle. I certainly appreciate their generous intentions, but deep inside my heart still insists on a nagging perception that the 'easy' way is not the wise one. Do I trust my instincts here? I welcome any 'sage' insights on this perplexing experience. Blessings...

How or where does one draw the line between Truth and Expedience?
Your instincts have been honed by years of trial/error and experiential learning... Trust them more than ANY information from ANY other source. The wisest choice among all comers may be a "wise" combination of both Truth and Expedience...
Reply:Your clear thinking is exceptional.

The quality and dignity of your inner life trumps anything you will gain by selling out to short term material gains.

Looking at the long term, you are a steadily rising star. The frantic grasp for material wealth is here today, gone tomorrow.
Reply:Principles and morality are of utmost importance, but if your moral code conflicts with your pursuit of personal material gain, check your premises.

Morality is only useful if it helps you succeed in living life, and life requires material values. A way is not wise because it is hard, it is wise because it is good for you. If this happens to be the easy way as well, and you aren't going to violate somebody else's rights, then go for it.

What color should I paint my new living area?

We are moving into a HUGE ne house. The living area is very nice sized. Our style is contemporary. Almost everything we have is black, white and silver. We have black leather couches,a nd alll of our pics and stuff on the wall is black and white. I want to paint the walls like a sage green color, but my husband thinks that will look crappy. Oh yeah- and he hates red, so don't even mention a shade of it. Need color suggestions!!!

What color should I paint my new living area?
IM A UNION PAINTER AND GOOD WITH COLORS

U WILL NEED TO GO TO SHERWIN WILLIAMS TO SEE THESE COLORS.

SPICED VINEGAR-DARK BEIGE..LOOKS OUTSTANDING WITH PAINTED OR STAINED TRIM. JUST PAINTED A HOUSE THAT COLOR AND THEY HAVE LOTS OF BLACK AND WHITE. TURNED OUT BEAUTIFUL.

SAPHIRE BLUE...BLACK AND WHITE LOOKS AWESOME WITH IT

THEN SEAGUL GREY- VERY NICE CONTRAST...IT WOULD BE A COIN TOSSER BETWEEN THE TREE I SELECTED FOR YOU.

IF YOU MUST GO WITH GREEN..PLEASE LOOK AT CHATROOM..IT'S A CERY EARTHY WARM COLOR...ITS LIGHT AND NOT AN OVER KILL...BUT IM THINKING NOT WITH BLACK AND WHITE.

DAPAINTERDUDE@HOTMAIL IF U HAVE ANYMORE QUESTIONS.
Reply:What you should do is paint majority of the walls a color like Taupe (I love taupe because its kind of neutral, it has hues of greens and tan).

You should pick a couple of walls in the room and paint them a few shades darker than the color you picked for your walls.

I love that look. My bedroom is large and the walls have an odd shape. I am planning to do just that for my room.
Reply:I would go with red red wine that's the color my living room. I too have black couches, picture frames, and stuff. Everyone that comes over to my house loves the color and decor. A sage would be a nice color too. Well good luck! By the way the color red red wine is more of a Burgundy.
Reply:i think you should go with white
Reply:What about a bright blue color. Or maybe a different shade of green.
Reply:pumpkin butter might work with black white, and silver. Or maybe olive.
Reply:I totally agree with you that would look awesome!!! I thought sage green before I even read that part. Tell him the idea of it might sound crappy but to trust you it would look good-REALLY GOOD
Reply:Go to lowe's.com. Use the virtual painter to paint a sample living room with the color you like %26amp; show it to him. You can try out hundreds of colors. Sage would look great. I just painted my master bed%26amp;bath a little darker, sag harbor from waverly, I have all black %26amp; white accents %26amp; it looks great. A little formal, without being uptight.

I'm making turkey breast for Thanksgiving do you wrap the whole turkey with foil or cover the pan with foil?

I'm make 2 turkey breast, what is the best way to roast it? wrap or cover with foil? I am seasoning it with sage, garlic and pepper. Do you rub it with butter? If so I am using light butter. can i get some tips please. This the first Thanksgiving that I'm cooking. I'm a great cook, I just want everything to be delicious!

I'm making turkey breast for Thanksgiving do you wrap the whole turkey with foil or cover the pan with foil?
You can wrap the whole thing or cover the pan. Both will work.

I have to put my two cents in though...may I suggest roasting it in an oven bag? It will keep it juicy and the top will still brown beautifully.

I always get compliments when I roast or bake using the roasting bags.

Also, butter or olive oil for rubbing the skin.

Olive oil seems to give it a more "even tan' and a slightly better skin texture.
Reply:My son and I only like dark meat ...... so I just buy turkey thighs, legs, and/or wings. I cook it in a plastic oven bag. I just season it with sage, salt, %26amp; pepper. I don't use butter. I only use butter when cooking a whole turkey; which is rare. There is sooooo much juice left after cooking that I add it to my stuffing along with the chicken broth
Reply:I WOULDNT SUGGEST USING FOIL AT ALL, I THINK THAT THE COOKING BAGS ARE GREAT, THEY MEAT COMES OUT MOISTER AND SEEMS LIKE IT COOKS QUICKER...IF YOU RUB IT WITH BUTTER I WOULD DO IT PRIOR TO PUTTING THE SEASONINGS ON SO THEY STICK..GOOD LUCK!
Reply:I like putting my finger in between the skin and breast and tease apart and put herb butter or lemon butter -or whatever flavour you like into those pockets.

Doesnt matter really if you put foil around bird or tin-but tends to stick less to meat if around tin
Reply:Make sure you remove the neck and gizzards from the cavity. Roast for 20 minutes per pound at 325 if you have stuffing in the birds or 15 minutes if not.
Reply:We use the Reynolds Turkey size bags to put the Turkey in. It is alot easier cleanup and easier to set for presentation as well as great in helping keep the turkey moist. We use two whole 15 - 18 lb butterball turkeys. My MIL uses butter both on the skin and in the turkey as well as spooning broth over and in the turkey a few times through out cooking. Happy Thanksgiving and Hope all goes well.
Reply:I have never done just the breast, I always make the entire bird in my smoker. But, my mom always cooked her birds covered, until the last 1/3 to brown.

My cookbook says to cover. Depending on the size of the breasts 4-6lbs cook @325 for 1 1/2- 2 1/4 hours. For 6-8lbs, cook for 2 1/14- 3 1/4 hours.

If you rub with butter, rub before you season. I would probably indirect grill on the BBQ.

Good Luck to you

Suggestion for bay window treatment in a kitchen?

I have a pretty bay window in my kitchen. The middle window is 45 wide and 45 long, and the windows on either side are 25 wide by 25 long. My cabinets are ivory, and my walls are a sage green. I need privacy as the window faces north and directly toward my neighbor.

I would like to make Roman Shades, but have never done so before. Any tips/advice on making them, or suggestions for other treatments? Thanks!

Suggestion for bay window treatment in a kitchen?
JCPenny has a shade that you can either lower from the top or the bottom, it is a pleated shade. You can check out their web site and see if you can find them. You could also put up a 24" curtain where you could see over the top but no one could see in.
Reply:If I were you I would make an herb garden out of it and use very simple swag curtains.
Reply:My suggestion will only fit if you have a certain outdoorsy decor... I have Norway Pine garland as my window treatment. I have added some big pine cones to make it even more realistic... It is amazing !!!

What herbs are best for smudging ot cleansing areas?

What is best for cleansing your spaces besides sage? I would like to get some ideas before I begin!

What herbs are best for smudging ot cleansing areas?
I use organic sage from my garden and sometimes add basil and mint as these are associated with prosperity (I have heard that burning a cinnamon stick will also bring prosperity, but haven't tried it yet). Oregano is also good for its anti-septic qualities. It still smells like a pot party for a couple of days but I kinda like that...
Reply:Cedar and lavender. Rosemary is good for cleansing, but don't burn it. It is too strong.
Reply:Sage, sweet grass, and frankincense works well.

but sage has always worked the best as far as i know
Reply:i have used sage, but now i use a oil called tea tree oil,
Reply:The most commonly used ones are sweetgrass and sage (as SuziQ said) and many people use lavender.

Some people prefer using lavender because the scent isn't as marijuana-like as sweetgrass and sage are.
Reply:I don;t use herbs- I use Sandalwood....it's a light, clean scent that won't gag you, and is as ancient as time.
Reply:as a native american i used sage,sweet grass

white sage sticks,cedar... i provided as link for you
Reply:Dragonfl.... I'm new to this category. I don't know what those terms mean and I'm curious....explain?
Reply:Sage, Western prarie sage, Kinninnikinik, Red Cedar, Lavender, Rosemary, Bay, Thyme, and yes, Tobacco are excellent cleansing and purification herbs to burn to smudge ar room or even the enitre home. Check your other correlations to get the best results for the purpose that you wish to cleanse the area for.

Reply:FIRST, CLEANSE YOUR EXTERNAL SPACE AROUND YOUR HOUSE WITH SALT WATER, ESP.SEA SALT,I PREFER SWEETGRASS AS IT IS A NATIVE AMERICAN BRAIDED HERB THAT SMELLS WONDERFUL.EVERYONE USES SAGE?I PREFER SWEETGRASS!
Reply:Hemp
Reply:Native Americans use sage, sweet grass and tobacco ( leaves, not the stuff you smoke) depending on the use. Hope this helps.
Reply:I've always used white sage and as i'm australian, eucalyptus leaves, they are what are native to australia... so it's a natural cleanser and have been used as the american indians use sage (its very tea tree like) and it makes good smudge... Try making your own smudge stick and empower it with what you need it for. Also rosemary, lavender.

Sandalwood, cedarwood, frankincense and benzoin in natural form always work for me used on a hot coal in a nice pottery pot or bowl with earth and pebbles or rough sand to keep the heat from cracking the pot

I also use salt to cleanse, as its very grounding, combined with a little chant or affirmation of what you'd like to cleanse the area of and what you'd like to bring into the area.

Good fresh breeze to open the house up. :)
Reply:Sage is most used... But I actually like Mugwort. (try it sometime)
Reply:As many have said, Sage and Sweetgrass are both good for smudging. But follow your nose, too. There are a lot of smudging herbs to use. You could use some that are pleasing to your sense of smell if you like.

Most of what you do is the intended act, but the correct herb for smudging is also important.

There are a number of books out there that can also help with that decision.

Can any kind of sage be used to get high on ?and if so how?

NONE. What idiot told you that? And, if you burn it, it STINKS! Listen, i grew up in the seventies, and the only drugs I never did were heroin, meth, speed, no opiates except for, well, opium. NO you CANNOT get high from sage! EVER!!!!!That sounds like when i was a kid and people used to say you could get high from:Taking aspirin with coca-cola; and, smoking marigold seeds. Sound as stupid as "smoking sage"? You bet it does. 'S freaking ridiculous.

Can any kind of sage be used to get high on ?and if so how?
HELL YES!!!!

have you ever heard of salvia divinorum??? this is known as the "diviner's sage." most people just call it "salvia."

it has been used by ancient cultures for centuries to cause religious holy visions and deep insights. mazatec shamans used it for spirit journeys. it is still legal in the US, and available at most head shops.

you dry the herb, and then smoke the product. it must be smoked at very high temperatures, so you must use a torch-style lighter. the BEST results are obtained using a water pipe (bong), and you use about enough to cover a dime/nickel. you must burn the entire hit at once, and inhale all the smoke at once. hold the smoke as LONG as possible. by the time you exhale, you will already feel the effects.

salvia comes on VERY strong. if you've never done hallucinogencs before, DONT START WITH SALVIA. I HAVE DONE ACID, MUSHROOMS, AND PEYOTE, AND SAVLIA IS STRONGER THAN ANY OF THOSE!!! i will no longer do salvia, because the trip is INTENSE, and often scary.

however, the trip only lasts for a few minutes. sometimes less than 10, sometimes more than 20, almost NEVER more than 30 minutes. my first experience went like this:

i was holding in the smoke, and started to get a pins-n-needles feelign in my jaw. suddenly, the world was ripped away, and i felt like i was being sucked out of my body into a dream. (my friends tell me my eyes rolled and i went kind of limp.) i remember thinking i was made of yarn, in a universe full of velcro. i was stuck on everything and unravelling, but it was all hilarious. then i was inside a cactus, and the i WAS the cactus. then suddenly, i heard someone screaming and laughing at the same time. i realized it was ME. my body had been laughing the entire time, even though i wasn't aware. i came to, and my hands were in my mouth. i couldn't understand why there were so many bones in there, and then i realized they were my teeth. i couldn't understand where or who or why i was, and then, one of my friends turned and said "it's ok man, you were tripping on salvia, you're back now." and i felt totally relieved.

so like i said, scary, intense, and not long-lasting.
Reply:Yeah, and it makes your head go wheeeeeeeeeeeeee!

Does anyone know what stores sell sage sticks in New Mexico?
Stage sticks in New Mexico?

So-called new Age book stores, there are some in Albuquerque and Santa Fe, at least. You may want to look in the Yellow Pages and call them up before you go.

Happy smudging.

Codially, India.Magica
Reply:Sorry I know in L.A. But not New Mexico. There good to cleanse your atmosphere.
Reply:Edward - they are used in some Pagan and Native American ceremonies so it is appropriate in R%26amp;S.

I suppose go online and see if anyone local has them or look in the yellow pages for shops that sell crustals and such. If there are any Native American gift shops around look there too.

Interestingly enough locally some of the supermarkets even sell them with the local gifts - seems people just like to have them around for the decor and smell.

Or, are you in an area of New Mexico that has some sage? You could get some branches of big sage and braid them together and make your own. Home made always works better.
Reply:This has what to do with R%26amp;S again? Seriously, what are they used for? Just curious.
Reply:I know what you are talking about.

They have a lot of stores online that you can order them from. Just do a google or Yahoo search on the products that you need, or the kind of store you need them from.

100% sure he's dead.......i mean bco'z of the last scene....he was pierced by six spears....then.....he struggles to gave the info he got to one of the frogs and.....then he falls and the "Pains" attacked him....again....he's dead....NO! Reply:well it looks like Jiraiya did die, but we haven't actually seen him die yet, Pein was just about to deal the real final blow to kill Jiraiya, we dont get to see what happens after that so its not for certain.

it is also true that Jiraiya was in the process of dying after he gave the Pa frog the info on Pein's identity, but again, we dont actually see him die, we just asume he died.

all i'm saying is that knowing Kishimoto there's gonna be something completely unexpected in the next chapter that could just save jiraiya, but these are all probabilities.

there are like a million more theories about this topic elsewhere like in this site:

i really dont want Jiraiya to die so i keep hoping for the unexpected even though there's a low probability =D

A question about Sage Accounts?

When my customers book my services they pay me £200 deposit. When they give me final numbers and I do their invoice, how do I take this off the final figure so that their final invoice shows the actual amount that they are due to pay? Can you put a minus amount in, it needs to show on one invoice to make it simple for the customers. Sorry, I'm a Sage idiot!!

A question about Sage Accounts?
you cannot enter minus figures into an invoice in Sage. you will have to enter the invoice for the full amount.. i am led to believe this feature is to be introduced in the new version. with regards to posting the deposit, you can post a sales payment on account when the money is received and allocate this when the invoice is updated. this will reduce the amount due and leave the rest to be paid as normal. to post a payment on account go to bank%26gt;customer and type in the amount in the top amount box at the right. save this and you will get a message about it being unallocated. this is fine, as you will be allocating it at a later date. you may find the 'F1' help key helpful also in the program.
Reply:support worker sum it up great -- except besides the prompt payment discount - i would also have a penalty percentage for payments received after a certain date.
Reply:Well Karen, they are paying you a lot of money and using sage you should know how to balance your accounts.

You can keep to one invoice and show a minus as you said.

Your invoice will show total fees at the top, for services / professional fees your next line could show LESS deposit of £200 giving you a sub-total and finally the last line showing amount outstanding to pay.

Another little hint you could try to increase chance of business is to increase your fees BUT on your invoice state that if the invoice is paid within seven days of the account you will give 10% reduction for the prompt payment. Thats been tried and tested and it works

Best wishes

Whats your Thanksgiving cornbread dressing recipe?

My mother has one but I dont like hers. She uses to much sage and adds apples and raisins. Its not bad its just not my kind of dressing. I want a good one with out fruit and isn't greenish brown due to the amount of sage and preferably doesnt call for white bread. If any one has one please share.

Whats your Thanksgiving cornbread dressing recipe?
Well, I am from the south.

1 large skillet of cornbread , crumbled

1 med chopped onion

1 can cream of chicken soup

cooked turkey wings chopped

turkey broth (enough to make it very moist)

salt and pepper to taste (dash of sage ) or not

dash of garlic powder

2 hard boiled eggs chopped

mix and bake 375 for 30 minutes
Reply:I dont have it written down but I bake jiffy cornbread the day before 2 or3 boxes (change 1/3 cup of milk to 1/2)

1 bag of seasoned pepperage farms bread dressing mix.

onions

celery

stock

sage

cut up giblets and sometimes a boiled egg.

butter or margarine

sauté 1 cup of onions and 1 cup of celery (string it first)

add stock to (crumbled up)cornbread and bread mix.

add the rest and season to taste with salt and pepper.

bake at 325 until golden on top. use a 13 x9 pan or bigger if you want more. I never stuff the turkey anymore just serve it on the side with gravy
Reply:CAJUN CORNBREAD DRESSING

2 tsp. salt

1 1/2 tsp. white pepper

1 tsp. red pepper

1 tsp. oregano leaves

1/2 tsp. onion powder

1/2 tsp. thyme leaves

For seasoning mix, combine, mix thoroughly and set aside.

DRESSING:

1 stick unsalted butter

3/4 c. onion, chopped

3/4 c. green pepper, chopped

1/2 c. celery, chopped

1 tbsp. garlic, minced

2 bay leaves

1 lb Polish smoked sausage, chopped

1 c. chicken broth

1 tbsp. Tabasco sauce

5 c. crumbled buttermilk cornbread

1 1/2 c. evaporated milk

3 eggs

In a large sauce pan, melt butter and add onions, bell pepper, celery, garlic and bay leaves and cook over high heat. Saute about 2 minutes, stirring frequently. Add the seasoning mix and continue cooking 5 minutes. Stir in the sausage, chicken broth and Tabasco sauce. Cook 5 minutes more stirring frequently. Turn off heat. Add the cornbread, milk and egg. Spoon dressing into a greased baking dish. Bake at 350 degrees until browns on top for about 40 minutes.
Reply:I usually boil a chicken in water seasoned with salt, pepper, and a couple bouillon cubes a couple days in advance to get the broth. After it's cooled, I can take off the fat. (use the chicken for chicken salad).

I bake a skillet of cornbread. Cool, crumble and let set to dry overnight. Chop onions, celery, and hard boiled eggs if desired. Saute the onions and celery in butter.

I mix the cornbread with the onions, celery, warm broth, a can of cream of chicken soup, garlic bits, salt and pepper and three beaten eggs. I like it pretty "sloppy" so it doesn't get dry in the oven. I do not like sage but if you like a little of it, add it. Bake at 400' till bubbly. My family likes oyster dressing so we add a pint or so of fresh oysters along with the juice. If we can't get fresh ones, canned ones will work.

3 stalks celery, chopped

2 eggs, beaten

2 cubes butter or margarine

1 lb. Turkey Italian Sausage

2 boxes Mrs. Culbretson's cornbread stuffing mix

Chicken broth, or stock, heated (at least 1 cup or more)

Saute celery and onion in butter (all of it) until translucent. Add to dry cornbread mix. Saute sausage (casings removed) until crumbly and cooked thru. Add to mix. Add beaten eggs and mix. Add chicken broth or stock until moistened but not too damp. Season with fresh ground pepper. You may stuff your turkey at this point or put in baking dish. I cook mine in a slow cooker for several hours so that I can keep my oven open for other dishes. Yum!
