When is the best time to plant?

I want to grown my own herbs like: Parsley, Basil, Sage.. things like that. When is the best time of year to plant them, and is there a special soil, way to plant them or do you just plant them like everything else?

When is the best time to plant?
Most perennial herbs are hardy plants that are able to survive winter, but one should check their specific zone map to be sure. Most Herbs prefer to grow in well-drained soils, and soils that are heavy should be amended with organic matter to loosen the clay structure. Another method of improving drainage is to plant the herbs in raised beds. Plants that are marginally hardy (such as rosemary %26amp; Greek oregano) should be dug up, potted, and wintered indoors. They can be moved back to the garden the following spring.

Herbs are classified either as *Annuals, *Biennials, or *Perennials. Annual herbs are usually grown from seed; they grow, flower, and produce seed during one season, and then die. Biennial herbs grow for two seasons, flowering the second year only. Perennial herbs, once established, come back each season. Some herbs are Tender Perennials; these do not survive severe winters and are best grown as annuals or wintered indoors.

Reply:That depends on where you live. If you are in the middle and upper part of the country, try just growing some inside in a sunny window. If you live in an area where you have no winter, you can plant outside usually any time. Check your library for books on herbs, for some have different soil requirements, although many are not fussy and grow in even poorer soils. They do need sun and water of course.
Reply:The best time to plant is early spring to spring. A good organic soil will be the best. Nive sandy loam soils with some organic contents will do you well.
Reply:The best time is during the rainy season. You can use soft soil (black is preferred) and just add some natural manure, bone meal. This would help the herbs to grow better.

There is no one answer, or do you think we're all pshchic?
Reply:Herbs are versatile plants. They will grow happily in most environments and suit small gardens well. They don't demand lots of nourishment; provided the ground has been dug and weeded, they will grow happily without additional fertilizers.

It is important however to, choose herbs to much your soil and water them well during their first spring and summer and in particular during hot spells. To save your self a lot of work choose herbs that will enjoy your garden soil. Mint, Parsley, Chives for example they like rich cool soil. Sun loving herbs such as Sage Lavender and and Rosemary may rot away in a cold wet winter if the soil is heavy. If your soil is unsuitable for certain herbs, consider growing them in containers.
Reply:The annuals -- parsley, basil-- you plant in spring

The perennials -- sage -- you can plant spring or fall

Basic dirt is ok, check the individual plant

Herbs are like weeds %26amp; generally pretty easy.
