Does anyone have good advice for a teenage girl redecorating their room?

I have pale sage green walls, with white wood furniture. What colors would be good to use in my comforter and curtains? I'm fairly simple, and don't like things that are too loud and bold. Currently I have a white (stained) carpet, and would like to get a new one. What colors would not stain easily, but also not be overwhelming? Also, if anyone knows any good places to find good, large selection of comforters, that would be great! Thank you so much!

Reply:a lot of newer carpets (even the white ones) come with stain gaurd stuff in them. Also, to remove existing stains what I have found works really well is one of those steam cleaners, but instead of the cleaning solution they give you, treat the spots with a good heafty mix of hot oxyclean water and wait about 15 min, and then steam clean it. I know that takes out red wine, tomatoe sauce, and chocolate fairly well. If you don't have a steam cleaner you can get a spot steam cleaner for about 40 dollers, and one of the upright vaccume type for about 200 (good ones). If you suggest it, mom may foot the bill for trying it. (mine did and I don't live at home)
Reply:Earth tones are great for the comforter, not strips but more like your dripped colors on it. For the curtains I would use a slightly dark green to accept the wall color. And for the carpet, earth tones that are verigated would bring the room together. But you an always just have the carpet cleaned.
Reply:I just re-did my room too. For comforters, try Kohls, Macy's, JC Penney and Bed Bath and Beyond. For carpet...maybe try a grey/blue or a tan. I have grey/blue carpet and it doesn't show dirt or anything really. I would think blue would look good for a comforter and curtains. Just pick out what you like and see how it fits in! Have fun!
Reply:Any online department store probably has sales right now.

Suggest a small floral, plaid, or skinny stripe, with the sage and one or two other 'soft' colors:

ivory

dusty rose

peach

light yellow

aqua

sky blue

lavender

light caramel

Or, get a textured spread or comforter, such as brocade.

Get your carpet cleaned before you replace it - sometimes they are salvagable. Or add a rug, or re-arrange furniture

Since your walls are sage, you could use a second color from the comforter for the carpet or rug.

Try to get drapes/curtains that match the bedding.

Add other accessories that match the two/three colors for

pillows, lamps, chair, vase, candles, etc.

The best advice I can give you, is dont paint the walls any really dark colours, such as Hot Pink or a really bright blue, as when you are older and want to repaint them white, you will have to do three coats to colour it. When it comes to carpet, get a textured one with scotchguard on it so if you do spill something on it it wont be so easily noticed. I dont mean a colour pattern cos their tacky but like a ribbed one or something like that. Get like a beige or grey colour, they look classy and will hide stains well. Im sorry i cant help you comforters as i live in Australia. Good luck!!
Reply:You can use alot of colors with the pale sage green and white. However, you will need to keep them pale as well. If not, you will have what you said you do not want!



A neutral color, such as cream, instead of white, can tone things down and is better at not staining.



Now, if you find a comforter which has a pale, pale yellow, you could even go with a very light, pale yellow for the carpet. It is a matter of your taste.



Just make sure that the color of the comforter has the sage green and the colors you choose for the rug and curtains.
