Because of the freeze , I have brought my herbs indoors and Kitty just loved that. Is it OK?

Grow them their own garden....it will be fun for you and your cat....I have researched this well and all of these plants are non-toxic for kitty's...not that they will like them all but let them choose....have fun with it!!!!..lol...smile

I know someone that made a whole window seat area ith alot of these plants in in and found a wide variety the her kitties loved and each one had its own preference to each type of plants...it was great... I think everyone with cats should do this... it will help deter them away from the other household plants if you make a kitty garden... she has a pet bed in the middle and the kitties love it!!!
Reply:As a general rule herbs and cats is not a good idea as many can affect a cat adversely. Herbs are used in Chinese medicine and my old cat was on a vet-prepared mixture for kidney support. Catnip is a plant and is great with cats. Parsley is a diuretic and might cause some problems if the cat ate a lot.



Catnip and the grasses sold especially for cats would be a much safer choice. I would be inclined to stick with those. Cats evolved to be meat eaters and do not eat plants naturally. My cats sometimes eat grass from the garden to purge their stomachs. They don't eat the herbs I grown outside.

Catnip is an herb. Mint is fine for cats as well.



Parsley and mint also have the great side-effect of sweetening your cat's breath.
Reply:Absolutely, cats love to eat greens and grass when they are outside. Indoor cats typically don't get enough greens in their diet. Most plants that you would eat are fine for the cat. Just keep an eye out if he gets sick.

Reply:I love this question and "Savannah Mommy's" answer. My older kitty kept "asking" for sips of the warm water with lemon we take first thing in the am (ayurvedic, rids system of "ama" which block flow of chi) and that's how warm water with a few drops of lemon juice became a mainstay of his diet. He drinks that water like he's never seen water before.



I've been researching lemon grass and other very light herbal teas to add to his warm water each day, just a few drops. So this list provided is a great one for me to do further research before I use it. Each kitty, like each human, has a different constitutional type, and each kitty has to be treated as an individual. Cats were bred to be our companion over hundreds or more years, so they are not like wild animals, they have become quite flexible, adjusting to our lifestyle, yet, one must be super careful with them as well.



My cat and I have a feedback loop, he knows I look to him to tell me what he needs, and I offer him bits of what we are eating, and he'll take a "no thank you bite" - pretty much they can tell by smell if the food offered will be good for them. But then again, this cat is very wise, unlike some of my other cats who were not such an old soul as this one.
Reply:If you want to keep your kitties from eating your herbs try planting them some greenery of their own. Catgrass is cheap and ridiculously easy to grow. My kitties love it.
