My living room has a yellow brick fireplace. Would painting the walls a few shades of yellow lighter than the bricks themselves look okay? I was going to go with sage green but the room gets very little sun.
What color would you paint a room that has a yellow brick fireplace?
I think I would do a muted yellow-tan, like "macadamia" by sherwin williams:

DO NOT paint the fireplace. I've seen them do this on decorating shows and I think it's the most insulting thing to do to the brick.
Reply:i'm w/ blode q t. I would paint the fireplace instead.
way to much yellow.
Reply:I'd opt for painting the fireplace instead. lol.
Reply:White or a lighter shade of yellow would probably look the best in a room which does not get too much sun.
Reply:I think a lighter shade of yellow would look cool, it would make the fireplace stand out more in the room which would be nice. I would also think a medium tan would look good or a shade of blue since blue is yellow's complimentary color.

Reply:I saw an interesting paint treatment used on a brick fieplace on TV. The designer picked a color from the room ( either a darker shade of the wall color or from one of the textiles ) and dry brushed it onto every second or third brick. It toned down the color without re-painting the fireplace entirely.
Speaking just for myself, I am not fond of yellow so I think I would probably do that.
In answer to your paint quesiton. You are right to consider how much light s in the room. Especially natural light. It sounds like you have either a northern or southern exposure ( I'm guessing northern ). This means that natural light will not have a big effect on the wall color you choose and that you will benefit from a warm color. That being said, go to your paint store and choose three colors that you love.Buy either the sample jars or a quart of each color Get posterboard and painter's tape. Paint the posterboards with the paint colors and use the tape to tape them to your wall. These are better than tiny paint chips and you can take them down to see how pillows, etc match or to take them to the store to pick out pillows, window treatments, etc. Have fun!!
