Since the holidays are coming up, do i need to replace the spices that i bought last year?

I would like for all my holiday meals to taste their best, so I was just wandering, should I replace the spices in my rack, you know things like nutmeg, cinnamon, sage, and so forth. If anyone out there has any tips, please let me know.

Probably not. Depends on where you stored them. I do use my spices left from the year before.
Reply:I've always heard that you need to replace spices after 1 year. They lose their strength if you keep them for too long.
Reply:I've always heard that if you question your spices, then smell them. If they still smell strong, then they are fine. Many spices last for years and are still great. Keep them in the dark, away from heat- the worst spot to store spices is on the back of the stove, or in the cupboard above the stove. Keep them down low, and in the dark. I keep mine in a bottom cupboard in a slide out drawer. Good luck~
Reply:I would think if you purchased them last year and they are all dried spices in jars and still have the strong smell to them, they are fine
