Is sage and salvia the same thing?

Most questions about "Salvia" on Yahoo Answers are referring to the species called Salvia Divinorum-- a hallucinagenic plant in the sage family.



Since you didn't mention whether or not you were referring to this, I'll guess that you were for the purpose of this answer.



No, it is not the same as common sage. Smoking common sage will probably just give you a headache. They don't look anything alike either.



But yes, the word "Salvia" in the name of a plant species indicates that it is in the sage/mint family. This includes common sage, peppermint, spearmint, catnip, and thousands of other plants.
