I need help to transfer Sage Instant Accounts v10 to my new Vista computer please.?

If I set up as new on the Vista computer which file do I need to transfer saved data?

I have already, I believe, transferred all the files over but Sage cannot detect the saved data.

I need help to transfer Sage Instant Accounts v10 to my new Vista computer please.?
If you purchase a new PC you may want to transfer Sage Accounts and data from your old PC to the new PC.



This article contains the following sections:



* To back up the data from your current PC - To ensure the successful transfer of your data to the new PC, you should take at least two backups of your data.



* To complete the ActiveSetup Wizard on the new PC - The first time you access Sage Accounts on the new PC, you must complete the ActiveSetup Wizard.



* To restore the backup files onto your new PC - After completing the ActiveSetup Wizard you can then restore the backup of your data.



To back up the data from your current PC



1. From within Sage Accounts, open the File menu then choose Backup.



Sage Accounts v7.xx and below - Please proceed to step 6.



A confirmation window appears, asking if you want to check your data.

2. To proceed without checking your data, click No, and proceed to step 7. To check your data before taking your backup, click Yes.

As the files are checked, the progress is displayed graphically.

3. If there are no problems, the Maintenance window appears informing you of this, to continue, click OK.



If there are problems with your data, the File Maintenance Problems Report appears. For further information about this, please refer to Knowledgebase Article W6494 - The Check Data option .

4. To close the File Maintenance Problems Report window, click Close.



The File Maintenance window appears.

5. To close the File Maintenance window and proceed with the Backup, click Close.



Sage Accounts v6.xx and above - The Backup window appears.



Sage Accounts v5.xx and below - The Backup Data Files window appears, to continue, click Setup.

6. Complete the Backup window as follows:



* Previous Path - Sage Accounts v8.xx and above - If required, from this drop-down list choose a previous Backup path.



* File Name - By default the Backup filename is SAGEBACK.001. If required, enter an alternative filename.



Sage Accounts v7.xx and below - By default this box reads Description of Backup.

* File Types - By default the Data Files check box is selected, to ensure that your data and any customised reports and layouts are included in the backup, select the All Files check box.



Sage Accounts v7.xx and below - To select file types, click Options then select the All files check box.



For further information about backing up report and layout files, please refer to Knowledgebase Article W6493 - How to backup your report and layout files .

Drives - If required, use the Drives drop-down list to browse for and choose the drive for your backup.

Directories - If required, use the Directories browser to browse for and select the folder for your backup.



1. To continue with the Backup, click OK.



Tip: If required, to exit without taking a Backup, click Cancel.



Sage Accounts now scans the specified destination for existing files. If a file with the same name is detected a window appears asking if you want to overwrite the original file.

2. To overwrite the original file, click Yes, or to return to the Backup window, click No.



The Backup is created and an information window appears informing you that the backup was successful.

3. To return to the program desktop, click OK.



You have now taken a backup of your data.

To complete the ActiveSetup Wizard on the new PC



Note: This procedure assumes that you have already installed Sage Accounts on your new PC. For further information about this, please refer to the Installation section of your Users Guide.

Sage Accounts v4.xx - v6.xx



Note: Sage Accounts v4.xx and 5.xx are not compatible with Windows XP operating systems, as they are 16 bit programs. Sage Accounts v6.xx has not been tested on Windows XP.



1. From your Windows desktop, open Sage Accounts.



The Startup Wizard opens requesting your serial number and activation key.

2. Enter your serial number and activation key then click Next.



The Start Up window appears, allowing you to create a new set of data files, or convert data from an earlier version.

3. Create New Set of Data files is checked by default, to confirm this setting, click Next.



The Start Up window appears allowing you to enter your Company details.

4. Enter your company name then click Next.



Note: You do not need to enter any other company information, as this is stored on your backup.



Sage Accounts v4.xx - The following window requests your financial year start date. This can be entered, but if you are unsure you can select any period as the correct information is on your backup. To continue, click Next then click Next.



The Nominal Ledger Accounts options appear.

5. Sage Accounts v4.xx - Default Nominal Account Structure is automatically checked, to continue, click Next, then on the VAT scheme selection window, click Next. When the information window confirming the details that you have entered appears, click Finish.



A blank set of files is created and the program desktop appears. You are now ready to restore your backup.



Sage Accounts v5.xx and v6.xx - General Business Standard Chart of Accounts is automatically checked, to complete this procedure, click Finish. The Sage Easy Start up Wizard appears. As all your information is on your backup you do not need to complete this wizard. To continue, click Cancel, then when asked if you want to exit the Wizard, click Yes, and the Sage Accounts desktop appears.



You are now ready to restore your backup. For further information about this, please refer to the section To restore the backup files onto your new PC later in this article.

Sage Accounts v7.xx and above



1. From your windows desktop, open Sage Accounts.



The ActiveSetUp Wizard Welcome page appears.

2. To proceed with the Wizard, click Next.



The My Company window appears with Create New Company checked by default.

3. To accept this setting and proceed with the Wizard, click Next.



The My Details window appears. The company name and address can be entered here, however this information is held on your backup so you do not need to enter this information.

4. To proceed with the wizard, click Next.



The My Financial Year window appears. This is a compulsory field, however if you select an incorrect month or year it is overwritten with the correct information from your backup.

5. To accept the Financial Year Start date and proceed with the wizard, click Next.



The My VAT Details window appears, you do not need to enter this information.

6. To proceed with the wizard, click Next.



Sage Accounts v9.xx and above - The My Currency window appears, you do not need to enter this information, to proceed, click Next.



The Program Activation window appears.

7. Enter your serial number and activation key then click Next.



Sage Line 50 v9.1 only - If The Program Registration window appears, you must install Licence Manager Service Pack 1.



The Next Steps window appears allowing you to view the Set Up Checklist.



Sage Accounts v10.xx and above - At this point you can check your settings using the Configuration Editor. As you are restoring a backup you do not need to complete this check.

8. To proceed with the wizard and create the new data files, click Finish.



A new set of blank data files are created, and the program desktop appears.



You have now created a blank set of data files, and are ready to restore your backup.

To restore the backup files onto your new PC



1. From within Sage Accounts, open the File menu then choose Restore.



Sage Accounts v7.xx and above - A confirmation window appears informing you that this procedure overwrites any data held in the current company. To continue, click Yes, or to exit the procedure, click No.



The Restore window appears.



Sage Accounts v5.xx and below - The Restore Data Files window appears, to proceed, click Setup.

2. Complete the Restore window as follows:



* Drives - Use the Drives drop-down list to browse for and choose the drive where your backup is stored.



Sage Accounts v5.xx and below - If a floppy disk is already located in the drive, this option defaults to the a: drive.

Directories - If necessary, use the Directories browser to browse for, and select, the folder where your backup is stored.

File Name - By default the backup filename is SAGEBACK.001. If necessary, scroll down the list of available files to locate and select your backup. The selected filename appears in the first File Name box.

* Description - The Description box displays the type of backup files detected on the selected backup.



1. To proceed with the restore click OK.



Tip: If required, to exit without restoring, click Cancel.



A confirm window appears, asking if you are sure you want to overwrite your current data.

2. To proceed with the restore and overwrite your current data, click Yes.



Tip: If required, to exit without restoring, click No.



When the restore is complete, an information window appears informing you that the restore has been successful.

3. To complete the restore and return to the program desktop, click OK.



Note: If the data you have restored is from an earlier version, this is detected by Sage Accounts and you are prompted to convert it before proceeding.



You have successfully restored your data files, and should now run the Check Data option. For further information about this, please refer to Knowledgebase Article W6494 - The Check Data option .
