How do you make vegetarian sausage gravy?

I would like for it to have a similar flavor to the real thing. I know how to make a bechamel with flour, butter and milk, but how do I get the sausage flavor in there? Maybe add sage? Please help! Thanks!

How do you make vegetarian sausage gravy?
You can use a vegetarian "meat flavored" bouillon cube (or oxicube if you're British).

Try a basic recipe like this:

and add in the bouillon. A bit of miso or nutritional yeast, if you have it, will add extra flavor too. That's probably the closest you'll get, but I'm curious to see if anyone has other ideas....
Reply:THAT SOUNDS LIKE A CONTRADICTION
Reply:You can try mushrooms, TVP "sausage", or maybe miso-see which gives the flavor you like best. That' s nice you wanting to do that for your mom.
Reply:you could check some of your local stores and see if they have any vegetarian sausage? then use it as your main flavoring of your gravy....
Reply:1st catch a vegitarian, mince, form into sausages and boil. This forms a very nice vegitarian soup/gravy, salt and pepper to taste.
Reply:I like to do a mushroom and onion gravy for my homemade veggie patties.

I take a few onions, and start them in veg oil, and brown them very will, take them out, and saute the mushrooms with a touch of garlic, add back the onions, a tin of veggie broth from the soup aisle or stock cube with 1 1/2 cups of boiling water, cook it for 5 minutes, season it, I like a bit of oregano and black pepper, to thicken you can use a starch either tapioca, corn or potato, it will be clear, if you don't mind flour and tablespoon dissolved in a 1/4 cup of water will give you a nice smooth sauce just cook it for 3-5 minutes to get the raw taste cooked out. If you like sage a bit of ground sage and thyme will get you a sausage like flavour.
Reply:Isn't that ??? at least odd

a V%26amp;V wanting the flavor of meat???
